Our Testimonials

I never thought I'd be comfortable recommending a contractor, but I would definitely recommend Dan Dragomir and dRemodeling.  Having had a nightmare contractor experience in the past, I did a significant amount of research when looking for someone for this project.  In the end I got 3 estimates from reputable contractors who I felt would provide a great end result, and ultimately chose dRemodeling primarily because I thought Dan would be the most responsive and easiest to work with.  And he was, from the initial contact and detailed estimate through to the end of the project.  I couldn't really have been happier with the experience. Below are some of the reasons I was so pleased with the experience.  We are very happy with the quality of all the work.  I only really looked at good quality contractors so I kind of took that as a given and dRemodeling did not let me down.  Dan also worked with me on price so that we were able to come up with ways of staying within our budget.  But here are some other factors as well: 1. Dan and his team are both reliable and responsive.  They always showed up on time, responded quickly (i.e. within minutes or hours) to any emails or phone calls, listened to my questions and did everything I asked, talked to me about any issues and in general did exactly what they said they would do. While this may sound like standard norms of behavior in most areas of life, for some reason it often doesn't apply to contractors, so it was so refreshing to be able to rely on Dan. 2. They are efficient.  When I told my wife that the contractor expected the project to take 3 weeks she said "Oh, that means at least 6 weeks".  In the end not only were they bang on time, they actually got frustrated with us because we hadn't ordered some of the bathroom fixtures which was holding things up. 3. Dan acts as a project manager.  I know a few reviews have mentioned this, but it really makes a difference knowing that there is someone very responsive spending his time on managing the project from the costs to the timing to all the details in between. Whenever I had any questions, concerns or needed any information, Dan was always a quick email or call away.  And he provided by far the most detailed estimate up front including guidelines on materials costs and drawings of the proposed basement layout. 4. They are very respectful of your home.  They laid tarp and swept everyday and really kept things clean.  And we had to tell one of them multiple times that he didn't need to ask us every time he wanted to use our bathroom! 5.  Their incentives are generally aligned with yours.  There are 3 things I like here.  (a) They don't buy the materials and mark them up.  While buying all the finishes, tiles etc. is another thing to think about, at least you get exactly what you want and know you're not getting screwed.  And they'll point you in the right direction.  (b) They will not ask for the final payment until a few days after completion when you've had time to look at everything and they've come back to do any touch-ups etc.  (c) They care about their reputation so it's probably not worth screwing you over for small short term gain. 6. They go beyond what they could probably get away with and they never complain.  They fixed various minor things that they noticed along the way, and picked up some random excess materials from a previous house owner that I wanted removed from the basement a week after the end of the project.    So overall I had a great experience.  Any complaints I have are so minor that they are not worth getting into (e.g. some minor miscommunications) and although you always have to stay on top of this kind of work, I felt that I could trust them more than I though I would (which was important for us since we were not home during the day for most of the project).  The carpenter that they used to do our bookcases was good but not amazing, although he was significantly better value than the other quotes for this particular part of the project.  All in all I would be more than happy to use Dan again.
