From humble beginnings to metropolitan success: a word from Dan Dragomir

Born into a poor family in Romania, our founder, Dan Dragomir, found himself seeking opportunities to grow. After becoming the first member of his family to attend college, he suddenly found that opportunity: he had won the U.S. Visa Lottery and an opportunity to live and work in America. With no money or U.S.-based contacts, little English, and a few years of construction experience under his belt, he and his wife decided to take the chance. Their journey for the American Dream had begun.

Though their first few months in America were fraught with hard work and uncertainty, Dan and his wife were optimistic, and after working three jobs and 80+ hours every week, Dan’s luck began to change. After transitioning from contractor helper to CAD technician to design engineer, Dan found himself working for KS Engineers, where he was in charge of bigger projects and grander ideas. There Dan could utilize the skills he had nurtured while receiving his bachelor’s and master’s degrees and apply the knowledge he had gained while working his 80+ hour weeks. And it was there, too, that the first seeds for dRemodeling were planted.

An idea sparks

While at KS, Dan began to notice how challenging booking reliable contractors was, especially when KS needed contractors who could help with the company’s various smaller projects. When Dan became responsible for booking local contractors for what appeared to be a simple job—retrofitting space above their office to accommodate office space with bathrooms and a kitchen—he could not believe how difficult the process proved to be! He suffered countless attempts to book contractors, companies not returning calls or emails, contractors who failed to appear for appointments, and contractors who, when they did appear, charged exorbitant prices for a job Dan predicted would cost a third of these contractors’ estimates.

Frustrated and in need of a reliable solution, Dan took the responsibility upon himself and asked his manager to give him a shot at the job. With the promise that he would only perform the contract work on evenings and weekends so as not to disrupt his regular 8 to 5 schedule, his boss awarded him the job. The project was a success, and the final costs were one-fifth of what the contractors had quoted! Dan began taking the place of local contractors for KS Engineers, and it was then he realized he could offer his services to more than just KS clientele.

Dremodeling is born

Six months later, dRemodeling began with Dan as president, accountant, receptionist, designer, estimator, and janitor as the only employee from his basement-based home office. Suddenly, he was back to the 80+ hour work week, but with the support of his wife and a handful of talented craftsmen he had met in previous jobs, he found he was loving the opportunity he had grown for himself.

Though the company started small, and started in a basement, Dan’s passion and quality of service could not be rivaled. dRemodeling grew swiftly, and the company was soon able to transition from their office in Dan’s basement to their first brick-and-mortar office and design center. Then in 2019, Dan and his team were able to transform an abandoned warehouse into a beautiful, fully functional showroom and design center to share with their clients that reveals the high-quality service that dRemodeling is capable of.

Dremodeling today

Today, the dRemodeling team has grown to a company of twenty-six dedicated individuals and has become the premier remodeling company in Philadelphia. And while we continue to grow, we insist on raising the bar for the highest quality customer service! dRemodeling is setting the standard for remodeling excellence in the Philadelphia area, and we’re proud to offer all of our customers a passion for design, the highest standards of quality, and a trustworthy team you can count on.
