The Trust Factor: Women Estimators in the Remodeling World

“Women view the world through wide-angled lenses, men through binoculars. Women, selling, see more...We read people. We can tell when we’ve said something that doesn’t click, that needs to be repeated or explained. It’s especially useful when selling to couples who disagree, as they often do. When they’re at a crossroads, we get them back on a single path. That’s because women are pacemakers by nature. “

Women Estimators in the Remodeling World
There’s an interesting new factor to consider in the remodeling world and it has everything to do with the trust factor: the thing that helps some homeowners make the final decision on which contractor they want to work with. In today’s society, women are an incredibly powerful asset to remodeling companies on a multitude of levels; one of the most predominant and underestimated being sales. When a customer makes an estimate appointment with a remodeling company to have design and construction work completed on their home, they most likely do not expect to see a woman arrive at the door. The customer is not to blame for this…why would they? There is a notably and shockingly small number of women in the remodeling industry. In fact, the home improvement industry feels nearly void of women when compared to the number of men. That being said, the remodeling industry has not woken up to the reality of woman-related-success. There several few aspects of women in remodeling that present advantages for companies and clients alike: • Emotional Intelligence. Colette Carlson from Remodeling magazine states that years of research concludes that women are inherently more in tune with the feelings and needs of the customer. A woman at an estimate appointment will be better able to build immediate chemistry and a strong rapport that is uncommon with male estimators or salesmen. • Desire to Listen. Women are better listeners most of the time. While not always true, women benefit from certain qualities that they may lack including fast-talking sales techniques and a one-track mind that is set on selling. At dRemodeling, we proudly provide estimates from males and females. Our estimators take appointments based on availability and we have found great success in those appointments where our female team member has met with clients. We find that customers feel well taken care of, that they have been listened to, and that their needs have been well-documented. Additionally, those age-old stereotypes of what women can and cannot understand pertaining to design, architecture, or construction are fading out and becoming completely irrelevant. As dRemodeling grows, we learn more and more about the strengths we gain in business by being versatile and client minded. Women are finally being recognized as critical elements in this industry and we, dRemodeling, are excited to be at the forefront of this recognition.
