Your Kitchen Is Missing These 10 Important Ingredients!
OK, this is a tough question about your kitchen, but the epiphany will be worth it, so take a minute to ponder and answer it.How long has it been since you last entered your kitchen and felt your heart swell at the thought of spending more than ten minutes inside?
It’s not you, it’s the kitchen!
Now let’s just rip the Band-Aid and admit that you’ve long felt the space has lost its sparkle. Maybe it’s the ancient-looking tiles, maybe it’s the drab countertop, or maybe it’s just all the Pinterest surfing you’ve been doing that’s gotten you hankering for a remodel. Either way, whatever bothers you about your kitchen can be sorted and a remodel can be just the thing to bring it into the 21st century! We’ve recently had a fan tell us on Facebook that his ideal kitchen is “Unique! I want my guests to remember it and look forward to hanging out/eating in it next time they come over.”This is where we got the idea for this post: some of our customers come in looking for minor touch-ups and they don’t even dare to dream about “unique.” You may feel the same – that there would be too much involved in recreating the kitchen area in a way that leaves it looking outstanding. We’re here to tell you “unique” is not too big of an ask at all!
Go big or go home… to a boring kitchen!
Can you hear a “greedy” there in the “ingredients” of a remodeling job? That’s not a fluke! We advise that you don’t fight the urge to splurge on this kitchen makeover – mainly because a half-baked job will leave you baking in a half-modern space. Who wants that?! Without further ado, these are the ten must-have improvements that should be on your to-do list if you want your kitchen to be the stuff of legends on your block:1. Overhaul the countertop!
With the countertops these days, there’s little chance you'll be wanting to keep that old battered countertop anyway, but just in case you're wondering what the most modern kitchens are sporting, here's the lowdown: granite is on the way out and a natural slab look is moving in. Anything from concrete to glass or quartz goes, and wood, the rawer, the better, is definitely on trend. A whole block of concrete works too, if you're feeling adventurous!2. Get wood!
Speaking of wood - the reclaimed wood table tops are all the rage and you might want to consider it, for your kitchen table or island. The organic insert can be quite the centerpiece and it needn't be rough to the feel either, as many manufacturers provide the reclaimed look sans the splinters!3. Make one thing pop!
The one thing any interior design will tell you about adding color to a space is don't go overboard, and that holds true for modern kitchen designs. Add a splash of crisp red or green to a pantry door, a wall, or a row of cabinets, but be sure to let the room breathe everywhere else in beige, grays, tan or cream.4. Track doors & barn doors!
The farm look has taken off lately and your kitchen can benefit. Add a bit of rustic charm to it by installing a barn door for the pantry, or try cabinet track doors on for size - the great thing about them is that you can choose to show off the shelves where the nice, colorful kitchenware is, and hide the chipped glasses from sight!5. Mix it up on the backsplash!
The backsplash is where you can really make a statement now, flaunting your eccentric, forward-thinking tastes. A well-trodden path to achieving a "statement" backsplash is through mixing in a different tile pattern that engages the visitor on entrance. If you're looking for the road less traveled, blend different-style tiles or even alternate some wood panels with the ceramic. That will sure shake up the overall visual language and serve as a conversation starter at your next dinner party.6. Store it like a pro!
Ushered into the limelight by the DIY crowd, the trend of enhancing available space by adding some out-of-the-box storage ideas into the mix has taken off over the past few years. When choosing your new cabinetry, take a chance on custom carpentry for the lower row. It might end up saving you a lot of headache later on, when you realize your cleaning supplies don't really jibe with the classy, finely-tuned look of the remodel.7. Minimalist is the new black!
Nowadays, fixtures and fittings have a distinct minimalist and/or industrial feel to them - it's a trend that started out in the bathroom, but it soon came creeping into the kitchen too. If you're not really into the cold, harsh look for the whole room, these stark items can always be softened with organic materials or warm lighting.
8. Be on trend with striking contrasts!
Sure, you could tile your floor cream or use parqueting lookalikes, but the contemporary-minded will always go for contrasting tiles arranged in surprising patterns. Contrast is the biggest-impact choice with the hip crowd and it needn't be relegated to the floor either. Try dovetailing black and white for a classy twist, or go wild with complementary pairs (but just one pair per kitchen, to be clear).9. Embrace your artistic side!
If you've got an eye for the arts, why not shout it from the rooftops? (Or, in this case, the countertops). There are several ways of integrating art into a kitchen design, but the most popular choice for displaying some art is the backsplash. So, whether it's an abstract backsplash design or a cubism-inspired cabinet door, this kind of eye-catching pop-up art plays well in a modern kitchen and speaks to the homeowner's artistic flair.Image found on Expressen.se
10. Scatter lighting all... under!
Under-cabinet lighting is, first and foremost, functional, to a degree that no ceiling lamp can compete with. On a related note, the recessed lighting trend has attached itself to cabinets and stove hoods, where the accent brings a warm glow to any working space below.☎ CONTACT
